EXCLUSIVE: ‘An alarming pattern’: GOP rep demands answers on big tech collusion with White House on censorship

A Republican congressman on Wednesday launched an investigation into possible collusion between the White House and tech companies, demanding that the Biden administration’s senior climate adviser keep relevant documents.
“Recently, you said, ‘Tech companies need to stop allowing specific individuals over and over again to spread misinformation,'” Republican Rep. Lance Gooden of Texas, co-founder of the Freedom from Big Tech Caucus, wrote to Gina McCarthy. . “Major platforms, including Meta (Facebook), Google, Amazon and Twitter, have cracked down on users’ ability to freely question the Biden administration’s climate change narrative.” (RELATED: ‘The Most Anti-First Amendment Administration in American History’: Hawley Responds to Biden Admin’s Calls for Censorship)
McCarthy, a former Environmental Protection Agency administrator, called on Big Tech companies to increase their censorship of so-called “misinformation” at an Axios event in June. Gooden cited his comments in the letter.

“We fear this violates First Amendment user rights and sets a precedent that allows the Biden administration to censor anyone who disagrees with its radical climate agenda,” Gooden wrote. “There has been an alarming trend of big tech users being censored for offering views on climate change that run counter to Biden administration policies, even when their criticism or information is accurate.”
Gooden cited cases such as the New York Post’s John Stossel being censored for discussing the California wildfires and the censorship of people discussing renewable energy failures during the February 2021 blackouts in Texas. Google, Facebook and Twitter last year announced steps to tackle alleged “misinformation” about climate change.
Gooden told McCarthy to preserve “all documents, communications, and other information, including electronic information and metadata, that is or may be potentially sensitive to a congressional inquiry, request, or investigation.”
“As we have long suspected, the Biden administration is colluding with big tech to advance their agenda and label free speech as disinformation,” Gooden said in a statement provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “These companies are abusing their monopoly power and working closely with the administration to silence conservative voices. Congress must investigate the extent of their corruption.
The White House came under fire in July 2021 after then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the Biden administration was “flagging problematic posts.”
The White House, Amazon, Meta, Twitter and Google did not immediately respond to DCNF’s requests for comment.
