LAFC has acquired a defender Mark Segber on loan from the USL Memphis 901 FC Championship team, the club announced on Tuesday. Segbers will remain with LAFC until the end of the season.
Segbers, 24, was originally selected 9th overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft overall selection by the New England Revolution, but has yet to make his MLS debut. He has scored one goal and two assists in 10 games for Memphis this season. He is above all a right-back.
“Mark has had a good season with Memphis 901 FC and his arrival will be beneficial as we head into the home stretch of the year,” LAFC Co-Chairman and General Manager John Thorrington said in a statement from club. “We can’t wait to get him acclimatized to the group as quickly as possible.”
Segbers has also appeared for Orange County SC and Swope Park Rangers (the USL branch of Sporting KC) during his career. Before turning pro, Segbers was a tenured at the University of Wisconsin for four years.
LAFC has been thin at the back this season, with midfielder Latif Blessing making a few cover appearances. Andy najar and Tristan blackmon are the two main options, but Najar left the last game with an injury while Blackmon missed the club’s last five games with injury.
